THE ORIGIN and GENERAL INFORMATION'S
The inspiration comes from the boats that were used during the
past centuries for fishing and for cargo from northern coast of
Europe to the coast of south Brittany. They had to be powerful and
fast to withstand any kind of weather. The shallow draft was a must
to negotiated rivers and other rias. The boats had to be very easy to
handle by a small crew. Ship owners had to cut down the increasing
costs of labor. It is surprising to see that those criteria's
correspond to an ideal cruising boat. So this way I have Wanda of TW
built.
And the result is that,
She is a good sailing cruising boat, on a transatlantic crossing she
is as fast of a modern 45 feet cruising boat (average 19 days from
canary islands to the west indies') but in style and comfort.
The general look of WANDA, is well accepted along the people of the
sea (fishermen and other working people of the see) wish is a big
advantage when you sail further than the European water.
Wanda of TW will be at home, attending the old gaffer meetings, or
pottering along the European water coast.
I have full documentation of the construction, and all the sailing
she as done.
"WANDA OF TW" is ready for some new adventure, sadly due to family
and personal reasons I have to sale her.
CONSTRUCTION
The massive and very strong wooden construction is classical,
planking 2-inch thick, frame ribs every foot, copper riveted, with
superior specification and under the control of an official
navigation register. The choices of the best timber available assure
long life and a minimum care. (teak, wild jack, rose wood, etc..)
Professionals from fishing boat yards did all installation
aboard.
SAIL PLAN
The lugger rig gives us a divided sail plan easy to handle by one
person and very efficient in all kind of weather, and lets not forget
that luggers like beating windward.
If a new owner does not like the lugger rig, it can be easily change
her to a gaff ketch, or even as a junk rig.
INTERIOR LAYOUT
To offer some privacy to the guests as well as to the master and his family, the front cabin has three bunks to accommodate five persons and an independent shower and head. The haft cabin has two double bunks and access to the engine. The galley and the common table are located in the center of the boat. The oven and the stove are installed with the appropriate ventilation located in a large chimney opened to the air. The sink is in a cabinet centrally located so that all can use it without disturbing the cook in his cooking area. The boat is equipped with a central heating system "reflex oil heater with boiler" located next to the sink. A copper piping circling through the interior of the boat's accommodation provides heating.
ELECTRICITY
12 V battery 6 x 180ha in 2 bank (domestic and motor start)
220V/110V with automatic charger, plug in the all boat.
NAVIGATION
The rudder works hydraulically from Marsilli with Two wheels, one outside and the other in the wheelhouse where a full chart table and navigation instruments and electronics is well protected in it.
MAINTENANCE
WANDA is an average size boat, comfortable and yet very easy to
maintain by one person. If you live aboard permanently jus keep
things in working order, if no, a couple of weeks per year should be
enough to keep the WANDA beautiful.
As every thing is kept as simple as possible she will be easy to
maintain.
Wood, rope, paint, and basic tool, is hall you need to maintain
her
